A MACHINERY DESIGN OR RELIABILITY AUDIT IS A CHEAP INSURANCE POLICY FOR YOUR NEW OR REVAMPED EQUIPMENT.
Abstract: Machinery failures due to design errors or oversights can be prevented before the equipment is purchased, but yet atastrophic and chronic failures continue to happen as a result of overlooked design mistakes. Unfortunately, design weaknesses are usually discovered during commissioning or months after the equipment has been operational resulting in revenue losses, safety incidents, and delayed plant startups and down-times. Companies committed to reliability and long-term planning differentiate themselves by investing in machinery design and reliability audits hiring third party experienced engineers to be involved in the selection, purchasing, and design process of their machinery. The engineer’s job is to specify design and reliability package requirements identifying design parameters, applicable industry standards (API, NEMA, etc.), manufacturing, fabrication and testing requirements, materials, packaging, and shipping requirements.
