No matter where our responsibilities lie in our organizations,
we are all faced with prioritizing our workload. What makes one
task more important than another to complete at this time? Is
it because of the urgency of the moment? Is it because it is
important to a superior? Is it because a customer is upset?
Don't we often times find ourselves prioritizing our tasks because
of reactive concerns like the above? We never seem to find the
time to work on the opportunities that we know exist and are
attainable. We never seem to be able to be PROACTIVE.
In RCA Justification Tools & Techniques 1 Day workshop students
learn various ways to prioritize what they should be working
on, no matter the type of backlog of tasks or events that they
face. Students not only learn these techniques, but they will
apply them through structured activities for each of the justification
tools & techniques presented.
The Justification Tools & Techniques presented
in this workshop include:
Basic
FMEA - The use of probabilistic data to project priorities
based on what "may" happen in the future. Such conclusions
will be drawn and the probability of occurrence of certain
events and their subjective severities if they were to occur.
Viewing events from these parameters allows us to project the
impact of criticalities of these events to our operations and
organizations.
Opportunity
Analysis - The use of historical data to determined
the 20% or less of the events that are costing the organization
80% of its losses. In this practical technique, events that
have occurred are evaluated based on how often they occur and
the impact on the organization each time they occur. This allows
the chronic events in our organization an equal perspective
against the sporadic events that seem to take priority at the
time they occur. Students will be surprised to learn that their
most costly events are the ones that are "accepted as
a cost of doing business"! This technique provides a business
justification as to why one should be working on one event,
versus the political failure-of-the-day.
Force
Field Analysis - This managerial focus tool helps
management understand the "driving" and "restraining" forces
tugging at their ability to meet their Key Performance Indicators
(KPI). This process allows management to objectively evaluate
and weigh these forces to arrive at very thought-provoking
conclusions. The deliverable is a report based on sound logic
and team consensus that provides a blueprint for removing the
hurdles to success.
Decision-By-Pairs -
This technique is quick and to the point. It allows an individual
or a team to quickly evaluate a series of options available to
them, by comparing the items in a disciplined manner, against
each other. This is a quantitative approach that delineates it
findings in a logical and calculated manner.
These techniques provide the student the ability to choose the
appropriate technique under the appropriate circumstances. Whether
we are looking for the hurdles that may impede our ability to
accomplish our corporate goals, or what features are most important
to my family in purchasing a car, these tools are field proven
and practical. You will be amazed at the widespread applicability
of these tools, and even more impressed in their value to you
and your responsibilities.
Read some comments from some of our workshop attendees:
"Overall it was a very good class. It is nice to know there
is a FMEA methodology that is more practical." Donald Zukowski, Mead Westvaco
"Great class. Easy to follow and learn the Leap system." Warren Hunter, Mead Westvaco
"Gave me additional tools in determining ranking for projects.
Good practical examples, even for personal use. I never thought
of using these tools for quick and easy decisions on personal
items." Robert Holcombe, Robert Bosch Corp.
"Great introduction to FMEA, can be used to identify focus
areas." Paul Kristensen, Shell Canada
